Nickels for diesel
May 16th, 2011
So I was filling up my car at the Citgo and I had to wait in line at the register for a long time. The guy ahead of me had paid in dimes. About a hundred of them scattered over the countertop. The poor girl behind the counter pushed them into groups, ten dimes by ten dimes. She slowly counted out ten dollars. She glanced despairingly at me as I stood there, waiting.
I said, “I’m paying in nickels.”
